The 37 mile long barrier island off the coast of Maryland known as Assateague Island is revered for it's wild horses, but don't let this island pass you by. You'd be hard pressed to find such beauty & amazing nature just a stone's throw from Berlin, MD, and 25 minutes South of Ocean City. It's about 15 min East by car from the town of Berlin, and quite frankly with views like this below
- what's not to like?
Assateague Island is Maryland's only true oceanfront State Park, and the Forests trail as well as the Dunes trail are not only enjoyable, but they each make you recognize how diverse and "wild" the Southeastern Maryland shoreline really is. The Atlantic Ocean is accessible on the Eastern part of the island, and to the West is Sinepuxent bay. Whether you enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, or just riding around on a bicycle, the scenery out there is just breathtaking. More info on Assateague is available at the MD Dept of (Natural Resource):
