Assateague Island is beautiful this time of year...

The 37 mile long barrier island off the coast of Maryland known as Assateague Island is revered for it's wild horses, but don't let this island pass you by.  You'd be hard pressed to find such beauty & amazing nature just a stone's throw from Berlin, MD, and 25 minutes South of Ocean City.  It's about 15 min East by car from the town of Berlin, and quite frankly with views like this below
- what's not to like?

Assateague Island is Maryland's only true oceanfront State Park, and the Forests trail as well as the Dunes trail are not only enjoyable, but they each make you recognize how diverse and "wild" the Southeastern Maryland shoreline really is.  The Atlantic Ocean is accessible on the Eastern part of the island, and to the West is Sinepuxent bay. Whether you enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, surfing, or just riding around on a bicycle, the scenery out there is just breathtaking.  More info on Assateague is  available at the MD Dept of (Natural Resource):

The Atlantic Hotel - in Berlin, MD

It's fitting that the opening post of Best Town in MD (aka Berlin, MD) is about the Atlantic Hotel.  The Atlantic Hotel is located right in the heart of downtown Berlin, MD and boasts some of the best cuisine in the area courtesy of their excellent Drummer Cafe.  This beautiful hotel was first built in 1865, and has all of the historical charm & amazing accommodations one would expect when visiting such a historic landmark.  The hotel was left as-is for the filming of Runaway Bride (With Julia Roberts & Richard Gere), and it's a hard building to miss.  Be sure to visit when you come to town...
